Mary Poppins

So there you have it, my first proper musical/theatre show of 2011 was Mary Poppins. I guess March isn't too bad. I've got Rock of Ages coming up soon, and the final show of Hairspray on May 1st. Not sure what else is coming to town this year, but I'm sure something good will pop up!

I really liked Mary Poppins, Verity Hunt-Ballad was really good, she's got a great voice and personality - which is always important. Marina Prior was very entertaining as Mrs Banks. She was really funny - which I didn't know she could be, having only ever seen her at Carols by Candlelight and the Rob Guest Endowment show. But the more she did the worse I felt for my mum cause she wasn't there the night they went. We didn't have the regular Mr Banks though, and they didn't either. I thought the kids were good. We had Kade and Scout. But the girl reminded us of Paige from Brothers & Sisters -which was weird. But they were good performers, not too over the top or annoying -except when they were meant to be.
I thought the guy that played Burt was really good. His singing wasn't fantastic, but he had acting chops, personality and was a great dancer.

The show was good, it was good that it was different from the movie, because that would be hard to do on stage. I had a few issues with things such as The Queen being there...when at the time its set -there was a king....but anyways. I thought it was really cool when they did Step in Time and Burt went over the top of the stage and up/down the sides. But the coolest thing was Mary flying out over the audience and up to the roof. that was SOOOO awesome! -She didn't fly over us, but I think that was better, cause we could see it better.


I ended up buying a mug with Supercalifragilistic written on it. It's HUGE! - it will have timeshare with the Friends coffee bowl. I didn't buy the program because Mum and Nikki had one and I don't see the need for multiples....I'll probably steal it for myself eventually anyways.

So our seats were pretty awesome. We were in row G, off to the left of the aisle, I've never sat that close at Her Majesty's Theatre before. The view was awesome, 'cept I had a really tall guy in front of me, so I had to keep moving my head. But 2 people next to us never turned up, so I moved over at intermission and then had a perfect view.

Our biggest complaint was that there was a family next to us, with 2 kids, including 1 very little girl who wouldn't SHUT UP. She talked through the whole thing, and the mother kept getting things out for her. It was ridiculous! I'm all for kids being able to go to the theatre - although I think there should be some kind of age requirement....someone brought a baby....who turned out to be quiet as a mouse! Go figure?! But people should know if their kids can handle being quiet. Its disrespectful to the actors, not the mention the high paying patrons around them. I mean it does cost over $100 bucks, so don't let your kids ruin it for people who pay good money to be there. Yes its a whole family sort of show, but its not a little kids show, its for bigger kids who can be quiet. Generally kids would act the same at the theatre as at movies, so if your kids talk or move around at the movies at lot - don't take them to live theatre!
Okay rant over....hopefully I will be able to train my kids to appreciate the theatre etiquette....or I'll leave them at home. -Haha!


Traffic was nuts getting in, and was nuts getting out too. Roads were blocked and so I had to go a different way to how I usually go, so that wasn't fun. I gave up on free parking after driving around for half an hour. I ended up going to the parking garage next to Her Majesty's Theatre. It cost 10bucks, but it was worth it in the end. Plus I did my first hook turn...I've never done one before - I don't like to drive in the city.


I got home just before Midnight, and talked to mum about it, I was way too awake so I turned on the computer, and somehow managed to end up watching half an ep of Private Practice....I only was looking up 1 scene...oh well. I got to bed at 2am...but am now totally exhausted!

Celebrity Stalker

So....I technically wrote this days ago, but blogger was being rude...

In the last couple of weeks, I seem to be being stalked by people who resemble actors. -I'm starting to wonder if its that I am semi-subconsciously looking for people who look like actors, or if they actually do just happen to look like them.

Since I started Uni, I have seen a guy that I think looks like Will McCormack - I think the fact that the guy is usually dressed in a suit like Will's character in In Plain Sight helps...but he does seem to have similar facial features. -I've seen him twice now, once at the station in Camberwell, and once at Starbucks in Hawthorn. Of course if I was to go up to him (which I wouldn't) and say 'you know you look just like this American actor...', he'd think I was a nut and also would most likely have no idea who I was talking about....as I imagine most people don't know who Will is unless they really like IPS or Brothers and Sisters.

Also the other day I passed a guy that looked like a young Peter Krause...

I'm starting to think my brain works even more weirdly than I'd thought. -Especially after I started dreaming my own tv shows, or movie, or whatever that was..it was slightly unclear.
But essentially I'd cast Jason Isaacs and Janel Moloney in a weird story that was a lot like Brotherhood...what with the guns and the violence whatnot.....yet it was not their Brotherhood characters....

TV Turnover

So as anyone who knows me knows...I became very obsessed with a little show called Pushing Daisies this year. And if you know that, you also know that it has now been cancelled.
It was expected...but still it sucks major doodie! Its such a great amazing show, full of bright shiny colors, the best characters ever (I loved every single main character...which NEVER happens), amazing writing - the dialogue just flows and makes you smile, infact the whole show did that!
So I'm very sad about it not coming back next year...and the fact its supposed to end of a freaking cliffhanger!

So now I've decided that I'm only going to watch old shows...now I know eventually I'll run out..but at least I don't get crushed by it getting cancelled. I know what I'm getting myself into. -Its safe.

Recently me and Ness started watching The West Wing (after talking about it for ages)...had always known the show and the people on it...but never really got to watch it, or wanted to...besides it was one of those shows that never stayed in the one timeslot for very long.
After the pilot..I liked it...after a few more eps, I was into it....after a few more I was HOOKED! While I don't understand most of it...its a fantastic show, with great writing and the actors/characters rock!

You know I think seeing as it only came out here in 2000....I probably was too young for the show at the time..and am glad I'm watching it now. I have a better understanding of US politics...especially after the election stuff going on in the last year. And while I've always had a few 'grown up' shows, I don't think I could have appreciated the West Wing back then.
I think I might have to get the dvd box set....if only to watch CJ fall into the pool...and Donna and Josh ramble.


I'm getting a little worried about the current state of television. With Daisies gone and ER ending at the end of this season...I'm running out of shows to watch. Sure I'll watch Lost, but even that only has 2 more seasons left. And I'll probably keep watching NCIS(which I like but only watch when I've run out of other new eps), Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and Brothers and Sisters...I think I've given up on Heroes, Desperate Housewives (although my sis watches it, so I'll probably see it when its on regular aussie tv), Samantha Who, Dirty Sexy Money...I can't think of any other shows I watch at the moment. I'll also probably not give any new shows a look either.

Maybe I'll get into Scrubs...thats a show I know, but have never really watched.
Maybe I'll just go down to blockbuster and rent any show that looks interesting. That or I'll just keep watching my dvds over and over...and over and over again.

TV sucks! They better give Kristin an award though...I still can't believe that Jean Smart beat her for the Emmy....seriously?!

Mind Wipe

Doh! I forgot to take my pics for Chad's 12 of 12 again!
-I blame the fact that I'm on holidays still.

Not only have I forgotten my pics, but I also haven't been writing much here on my blog. I guess my mind is just filled with other things to do.
I've been watching a lot of dvds. I finished Felicity last week. -Loved it, especially seasons 3 and 4....probably cause I hadn't seen any of those eps.
Now I'm onto Brothers and Sisters, which I bought back in December, but I have been waiting to finish Felicity first.

I've also been doing other things. Like playing WAY too much Sims2. I've got an addiction. -Hey I admit it! lol

With the Strike being on, I've been catching up on all my shows. I've only got a few more eps of Las Vegas left (which are fairly recent) to watch.
Hopefully with the Strike being resolved, there will be some new eps of my shows soon. -Especially Heroes and Private Practice which haven't had any new eps since the first week of December.
I've been trying out some new shows. -Some might stick, others will get the boot.
I've also been doing a lot of reading lately. I've been re-reading the Narnia books in order. I've read them all at least twice each, probably 3 times. -I've read the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe way more times than that.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to fit in, To Kill a Mocking Bird. -I aways love to re-read my faves over the summer break....plus I can't really afford any new books.

The job thing is not going well. I've got two, 3-hour shifts this week, which are my first shifts in 4 weeks. -I'm NOT happy.
I've sent out my resume to a few places. Hopefully something good will come from it! -I really really really would love to be able to go overseas next summer, or winter (09). I only need a few more thousand for a trip to LA, and perhaps somewhere nearby as well. I'm dying for a trip before I get too tied down with real work....plus I'd rather spend money on a trip while I can, than spend it on a car, which for now I can live without.
I hate waiting, I don't believe in waiting for things that are important. I haven't really been anywhere, and I want to see places before they're gone, or I'm gone.

Oh well. Uni starts back soon, I'll be spending money on books, and lunch, and coffee. I'm guessing lots and lots of coffee. hehe.
