So much has happened, since I've been too busy to blog....
So after the little Sydney trip, there was the bigger US trip at the end of October. It was a lot of fun going as a foursome. Course we didn't sleep much (I didn't at all) on the plane, and then had to stay up all day once we got there...cause it was 7something in the morning in LA. We dumped our bags and went over to the Farmers Market for some much needed Starbucks. Once we were able to check in at our hotel, Nick, Ness and I walked a few blocks over to the Beverley Center for some shopping. We had dinner at the Cheesecake factory and by the time we got to dessert my head was starting to spin, and it was time for bed.
The 2nd day was the VIP Warner Bros tour - which was amazingly awesome, followed by a taping of Mike and Molly! 3rd Day was the Paramount Tour, which was rather lackluster....and was missing the wow factor that WB had.
Then the 4th day we went to the Tar Pits, and Sprinkles cup cake bakery -with the ATM before an overnight flight to NYC!
We arrived very early in the morning, after a bit of sleep. It was FREEZING in NYC! Beautiful and sunny, but cold. It was too early to check in and too early to shop, so we went in search of breakfast. Then went shopping. After checking in at noon, we unpacked and had a short nap, before getting ready for dinner at Ellen's Stardust Diner (a must do for any New York trip). Then it was off to Annie. Annie was great, Katie Finneran was fantastic, and Anthony Warlow was good again too. The girl that played Annie, and the other orphans were all pretty great too. It was nice to see it done with professional Broadway kids for a change. We went to the stage door, and as luck would have it the whole cast had had flu shots and only Katie Finneran was coming out. -Which was okay by us, cause she was who we were waiting for! She was really lovely...it was nice to see her again. -New rule is that she must be on stage every time I come to New York, as she has been both times.
Sunday was hanging out with Kay and Nick, Lunch at the Olive Garden and then off to Avenue Q in the arvo, dinner at Maccas, and Book of Mormon that night. Book of Mormon was AWESOME. I only knew the soundtrack, none of the extra stuff, so that was really fun.
Monday Ness and I walked up 5th Avenue and went to FAO Schwartz and by The Plaza Hotel. Then back down to Grand Central station and around Bryant Park. In the evening it was off to see Nice Work if you can get it, which was amazing and HILARIOUS! Matthew Broderick and Kelli O'Hara and Jennifer Laura Thompson were all amazing, and it was great to get to meet them at the stage door after the show. - We also saw Krysta Rodriguez from Addams Family at the stage door - which I thought was cool.
Tuesday Ness and I walked down 14 blocks to The Highline park. It was really cool, and had nice views out towards New Jersey. In the evening it was off to Newsies. We had front row seats in the balcony, which were really close to the stage, so we had a great view. I LOVED the show, the cast was awesome. The guy next to me clearly wasn't into it though, he never applauded - which I found extra rude cause we were so close!
Wednesday Kay and Nick left really early...and boy were we tired, cause we didn't hear them leave at all.
In the morning it was shopping, and then off to see Once in the arvo. It was a good show, but not one I'd have to see over and over. So then came the most exciting part, we left the theatre and it was snowing! We were giddy as school girls walking around in the snow, taking pictures...and letting it fall on our hats, and coats. After dinner we came out to a bit of a blizzard. It was extra cold, and extra wet snow and slippery to walk and the wind was terrible. Walking a few blocks up to Wicked, was not fun at all. We walked very very slow. Wicked was great, but the theatre was freezing! The girl playing Glinda this time was great! I stocked up on plenty of merchandise to make up for 2 years without any Wicked.
Thursday was our last day in New York. We spent the morning sleeping in, then went shopping. I bought plenty of t-shirts. We went up to Rockerfeller to go to the NBC store, but it was still closed because of the election stuff. So that was disappointing. After that it was more shopping and walking around. We went up to Applebee's for dinner, the other one to the one we went to last time that wasn't great. This one was great. The food was amazing, and I ate too too too much. Then it was up the street to Studio 54 to see The Mystery of Edwin Drood. It was sooo much fun! Stephanie J Block was amazing, even though she was playing a woman playing a man. Will Chase was great too! They all were, not a weak link in the bunch. It was funny and crazy and the best part was that its interactive! Once the story runs out you get to vote for the murderer and the couple. Its unlike anything else I've seen. There weren't many people at the stage door, which worked out in our favor. Stephanie was lovely, and talked to us about Australia, and the snow...we may have squealed a little bit about the snow. Will Chase (of Smash) is crazy, but nice!!
Friday morning we were up early, after a few hours sleep, and it was off to the airport. Our plane was delayed slightly, but we made it to LA and then down to Anaheim. After settleing in, we walked around to Disney California Adventure. We looked around and got some lunch, then lined up to go on the new Cars ride. 2 hours later we were on the ride. The we walked around and went on the Ferris Wheel and the Little Mermaid ride....twice. Then we met up with Kay and Nick for dinner. It was nice. Then we watched the World of Color show. It was soooo pretty. I bought the ears that light up with the show, and wore them proudly, even if hardly anyone else was.
Saturday morning we were up early and off to Disneyland. We got breakfast, did Space Mountain, and then roamed around and did plenty more ride throughout the day. There was some shopping, before going out for dinner with Kay and Nick at Fire and Ice at Gardenwalk. Then it was back to Disneyland to see the fireworks...that ended up being cancelled cause of hte wind. So we went on the Astro Blasters and took some pictures and shopped before heading home to bed and to pack. Sunday we checked out and went to breakfast at IHOP. We had terrible service. Then it was shopping at Downtown Disney (or Downton Disney as we were calling it). Then it was back into Disneyland on the monorail and then over to DCA for shopping and to see the Aladdin Musical. It was interresting, not Broadway standard, but still fun. Then it was back to the hotel, to repack and then it was off to the airport.
At the airport we changed into our comfy trackies and then it was back on the plane and before we know it we were home again.
I had the rest of the week off, and enjoyed relaxing. But I can't wait to go away again.

Legally Blonde
OMG OMG you guys!
So last week I got to see 3 shows in 4 days and it was tons of fun. Wednesday I saw Promises Promises at the State Theatre at the Arts Centre....it was okay, but not much to write home about. Especially as Ness and I saw it 3 times on Broadway with Kristin Chenoweth, Sean Hayes, Katie Finneran and Tony Goldwyn. This one did not really compare. Marina Prior was okay, but it seemed weird. The guy that played Chuck was not great. He was doing okay, then forgot the words and messed up the last song a little bit....which I noticed, but perhaps people that hadn't seen the show didnt.
Then Friday it was off to Sydney for Legally Blonde weekend. After a little delay in actually getting to Sydney, Ness, Kay, Nick, Vicky and I headed off to the Lyric Theatre in Pyrmont to finally see Lucy Durack in Legally Blonde the musical. Our seats were fantastic, I think we were about 5th row, just off centre. The show started okay, then technical issues popped up and they even had to stop the show for about 10-15 minutes...it was hilarious...our very own disaster show! Then the show started up again with all the Delta Nu girls (skipping part of the song....) and to make things worse the poor little Chihuha dog played Bruiser wasn't cooperating and started running away, Renee Burleigh who plays Margot did a great job of catching him and improvising that part where she talks 'bruiser'.
Intermission they put down the fire curtain, again for technical dificulties....
Lucy was amazing as Elle...I knew she would be. But there were so many little things she did that I loved...but were very Glinda from Wicked...which I guess might have been more Lucy than Glinda in Wicked. Rob Mills (which did not help with the Wicked connection) was great as Warner. David Harris (who I only knew a little as playing Fiyero in Wicked post Rob Mills) was a great Emmett- adorable, funny and talented. Helen Dallimore who plays Paulette was fantastic...surprise surprise ANOTHER Wicked alumn, but she was Glinda in London. Also from Wicked...Zoe who played Elphaba when I saw Wicked in Sydney the first time.
After the show Ness, Vicky and I rushed to the stage door...and had it all to ourselves for a few minutes. We had prime positioning and got to meet everyone (I missed a few people but thats okay, I met the main ones, and there is always next time.). Everyone was really nice and happy to have a quick chat and sign our programs. Lucy came out almost last (which is why I missed Renee, she came out while I was talking to Lucy and zoomed past me. But still, I was talking to Lucy so I couldn't be happier. Lucy was very nice and happy to sign my program, and her CD for me. And then after signing a few other peoples programs took a photo with me.
Ness and I were pretty hyper after that...
Saturday Vicky and I had breakfast down at Harbourside, and then walked around a bit in the drizzle...before heading back to our hotel to change for another dose of Legally Blonde. Ness and I headed back over to the Lyric theatre at the Star Casino, and perused the merchandise stand - which in my opinion was lacking a little, I was disappointed in their selection...needed less kid stuff and better t-shirts!
After settling on a mug, magnet and dog bone tag/keyring, we bought OH MY Cosmopolitan cocktails...another plastic glass to add the collection.Then we headed in. We had seats on the end of the aisle further back and to the far right of where we were sitting the night before. So we had a different perspective which was good. -it included a view of David Harris in his underwear during Take It Like A Man.
Luckily this show went off without a hitch. No more technically difficulties. There were quite a few more kids in the audience of this show, but it was matinee. Overall a great show, a second viewing allowed us to take in more, and pick up on a few extra quirky bits.
After the show, we skipped the stage door - as we had pretty much conquered it the night before!
We headed back to the hotel for a debrief and a chance to change out of my dress.
For dinner all five of us headed to the Hard Rock Cafe, we got Long Island Ice teas while we waited for our table to be ready. -they pack a wallop I tell you!
We had a good table on the window, which had a great view of the harbour. The table was a bit squishy with all our drinks, meals and side dishes, but it was fine. I ordered a pomegranate martini with dinner - a classic fave of mine. We waited for the fireworks which were supposed to start at 8:30pm, but didn't end up starting till 9pm. -Ness and I shared a dessert to allow us to wait longer.
Sunday there was no time for sleeping in as we had to be up and out of the hotel by 10am. Vicky, Ness and I had breaky down at a cafe at harborside. Nick met up with us (he and Kay were staying till Monday) for a bit and then we had to head off to the airport. -for stupid international check in.
Once we checked in, we sat around a while in the food court....I was exhausted and not feeling great. After a bit of nibble on some food, we headed through customs and sat around in the shopping area, before finally boarding to go home. The plane was fine, and soon enough we were home again.
Melbourne was freezing, which was mean after a lovely morning in Sydney.
It was a great weekend, and I can't wait to see the show again...it better keep going and come to Melbourne so I can see it a million times more!

A Girl Without an Obsession
So it dawned on me recently, that for the first time in a good while I am without an obsession, which is very strange for me since I've almost always had one. Even as a small child the obsessions were there.
I'm feeling very lost. Without an obsession to drive my life, what is there?
As a young child there was The Carebears, Barbies, Cabbage Patch Dolls etc, and of course the big one - The Baby Sitters Club books. That one took over most of primary school for me. I read the books over and over, had merchandise and even planned a special exhibition, which naturally never amounted to anything other than a few papers filled with crazy ideas.
Then there were a few small ones when I started high school, then came along Charmed. A show I really liked became my new obsession after hanging out with my cousins Jade & Caitlin. We started taping it, and would watch it and eat Oreos and drink Sprite...it was a thing for us. I remember talking to Jade on the phone for an hour when we found put Andy died in an upcoming ep!
I had posters, trading cards, bears and even a few spell books!
Then as a result of losing all my videos and pics, plus the fact they killed of Prue, I moved on to Buffy & Angel. That lasted the rest of high school. I had trading cards, books and whatever I could get my hands on. It also lead to meeting some of my best friends, through a few online forums related to the Whedonverse. I went to my 1st & only convention, met Joss, and saw Serenity at the movies 7 times before it even opened officially!
Can't really remember when I let go if Buffy & Angel...I think when Angel ended and I decided to pick back up with Alias, Gilmore Girls, and then Grey's Anatomy. I did the multi obsession thing for a while, as along came Private Practice.
Then in 2008 along came Pushing Daisies and Wicked...and the rest is kind of history!
I got into Pushing Daisies the week before I saw Wicked for the first time. I got the soundtrack and listened to selected songs for that week before. I had always known Wicked was coming and knew I would love it. I had been waiting years for it to finally get to Australia. But that week of Kristin greatness was too much, I spent the next year seeing Wicked over and over, and watching the 1st season of Pushing Daisies over and over.... and watching any Kristin interview/material I could get my hands on. I must also put in my Idina obsession in there too...but I was actually more into Idina before Wicked, because of RENT.
So Wicked started off a whole Broadway obsession, seeing almost everything that came to Melbourne. But at the same time I was devoting myself to all things Wicked/Kristin Chenoweth/Idina Menzel....Vanessa and I discovered (finally) The West Wing. And that took over my life at the same time. I have lost count of how many times I have watched a select few GOLDEN episodes. I made my very first proper fan vid, played drinking games, learned about American government...and got to see more stuff with Kristin Chenoweth!
When I wasn't thinking about all things West Wing, it was all Wicked, or Pushing Daisies, or Kristin...I am surprised I actually found time to finish my university degree with all that in my head!
Then Wicked left Melbourne, and we finished the West Wing, I finished Uni, and I had a little more time to devote myself to new things. That's when I found Glee....a little show I was only watching for Kristin, and a love of musical things....turned out to be fantastic! I was hooked and those first few eps blew me away. It was smart, funny and made my heart sing every week....then they brought in Idina and that rocked my world all over again.....bought the music and watched the performances over and over....till it lost it after the 1st season....but I guess nothing can stay great forever.
In 2010 I also had my big US trip to obsess over. I got to actually MEET Kristin, in New York, and see her on Broadway! It really doesn't get any better than that! Oh yeah it does...I got to go to Idina's concert in Long Island as well! I loved almost every minute of that trip. But it was over before I knew it!
Last year I was obsessed with Private Practice. Season 4 was SOOOO good! I finally had time to obsess over it. Finally getting all the dvds helped too! But sadly this season started out promising, but has failed to live up to the standard of the 1st 4 years. Its in the 5 year slump that Grey's Anatomy fell into. I haven't lost hope yet, but I don't look forward to it and don't don't enjoy it quite as much as I did last year.
And that leads me here, to a place with no obsession. Nothing to take up all my thoughts and free time. Maybe its because I've been working full time since the start of August without any holidays. Maybe its because I don't really have a lot of free time spare, I spend it all watching things just to fit them in. Even the new shows this season haven't really captured my heart. I mean I really enjoy Pan Am, but I won't die if it doesn't come back next season. The same for Once Upon a Time, Up All Night and Unforgettable. I like them, but I'm not watching interviews or rewatching the eps.
Smash is perhaps the closest to an obsession. But I don't feel obsessed! I LOVE it, and have bought a few songs, and watched some eps over again....but wonder if I haven't let myself get attached, after the whole Glee situation. I don't let my hopes get high anymore. Maybe if I had more time, I'd have the energy to live and breath SMASH, but I just don't feel it. I love it, but I don't love it to death!
Maybe something will spark that feeling again soon, and I hope that it does. But right now I'm feeling very lost. I do not have a focus, something to get worked up over. Its been quite hard for me to feel really excited about anything lately. When did I become downer?
Either way, it is very strange after all these years to not be so focused on one thing. Maybe its part of growing up - I sincerely hope not, because if it is, I don't want it!
Maybe when I finally get that holiday/break that I want, it will refresh my brain and let my go crazy for something again. Until then, I will continue to sorta really really like stuff.

Maybe when I finally get that holiday/break that I want, it will refresh my brain and let my go crazy for something again. Until then, I will continue to sorta really really like stuff.

Musicals
Been busy lately, especially last weekend. Friday after uni and after doing some work on a presentation I had this Monday, I headed down to Ness’. We did a night of drinking, with Brett. We played a drinking game to RV. It’s a fun movie drink to actually. Then we did the obligatory WW episodes. –We might need to start branching out soon in terms of the eps we watch. –Maybe we should retire season 1 for next time….or not. :p
Saturday night, after getting home from Ness’ and spending the afternoon working on my presentation more, it was off into the city to see Chicago (the musical, not the band – in case you were confused) We were split 3 and 3, Me, Nick and Kay, and Ness, Brett and Vicky in the cars, those from the east, and those from the south. We had dinner at The Spaghetti Tree before the show. It was good food and nice to eat out together as a group. Then we went over to Her Majesty’s Theatre where it was playing. We got our mandatory programs, and headed to our seats. I was on the aisle, and Ness was next to me, and then Nick and so on. I liked our seats, we had pretty good vision. The show was a lot of fun. There were some parts I simply loved and others that were a little disappointing. But I didn’t let them ruin the good parts.
We couldn’t help compare it to the movie. In the end some I liked better on stage, some better in the movie. I really liked Gina’s voice, but I felt her big number should have had more movement in it….they didn’t always use the stage as much as they could have.
I loved Roxie. I thought she was excellent, very funny…even if she is scary tiny. My favourite part might have been the part in ‘Roxie’ where she takes the conductor’s baton and starts playing around with it.
After the show Ness and I went over to the stage door and got Gina Riley (Mama) and Sharon Millerchip (Roxie) to sign our programs. Gina was lovely and went to the effort to sign to us by name. Sharon did too; she was very nice and friendly and drew little pictures. We also enquired about the commotion that stoped the show in the first act…someone up on the balcony had some sort of medical attack or something. But the show went on after a little while.
After the show we went and found the rest of the gang…who had gone missing when we dashed off to the stage door. –We turned around to tell them we’d meet them later, but they were gone. We got drinks and/or dessert back at the Spaghetti Tree afterwards. I had hot chocolate with yummy marshmallows!
Then it was home again.
I’m a little sad now cause that means I’m out of musicals in Melbourne. I’ve seen everything proper that has been out in the last year really – ‘cept for Rocky Horror which I don’t think was really my thing. It started with Wicked back in July 08. The first proper, and by proper, I mean big production with biggish stars and in the big theatres, show I’d seen in years. Before Wicked, I had seen Phantom of the Opera not long before that, and then before that was Oliver…sometime back when I was in High School I think.
In the last year I’ve been musical crazy. I saw Wicked…a few times…I saw Billy Elliot, Jersey Boys, Avenue Q, and now Chicago. As far was as I know there is nothing coming for a while. There is a short run of Cats, which if I have the money I wouldn’t mind seeing maybe. I’m not sure about Mamma Mia. I’m not too fussed about it. And then there’s Mary Poppins coming out sometime which I’ll have to see, as long as they cast good people. I think that was my problem with some of the shows between Oliver and Phantom…the stories were good, but casts were annoying. Now I’ve become pretty familiar with some good Aussie theatre talent. I’ve even got people to follow now. –Story of my life: another person to pay attention to. I value talent and am loyal to those who I think have it. –They’re MY people.
….I’m absolutely hopeless. But so what?! It’s really too late now to start worrying about it.

Close to the End
So I have a total of 2 weeks left of this semester of uni...this semester which hopefully will be my 2nd last semester ever! I'm a little overwhelmed with all the stuff I have left to do this semester, though, most of which is due next week...some of which is due later. I am however feeling a little better prepared for my exam now. -The practice tests have helped, and I think I understand the theory/theorists pretty well now, which is good.
The whole job search isn't getting very far. I can't really afford to look at anything full time or long term, cause I still have that one semester of uni left. I am getting a few more shifts than I was, but still....50 bucks a week ain't gonna go far.
I'm also DYING to go to New York and see 9 to 5 on Broadway. I'd love to see Allison Janney on stage, but also the show just looks awesome, and the music is already stuck in my head...Wicked style. I don't quite have enough to go....even for a few days....maybe if I just hope enough something will happen. -But I'm not counting on anything.
Speaking of Wicked....I'm totally depressed that its finishing its run in Melbourne in August and moving to Sydney! -I guess I should be happy that its only moving, and not ending ending. Ness and I will have to make a trip to Sydney to see it once.
Also...I'm a little stressed with trying to figure out what kind of job I'm going to do next year once I've finished uni....its hard to find anything listed that doesn't need years and years of experiance. I'm sure I'll find something....I HAVE to find something.

If I could fly I would!
So I have known that Allison Janney was doing the 9 to 5 musical for a while now. I knew it was coming to broadway this year, and yet didn't get myself organised enough to go over and see it. -Now if I had been earning enough I probably would have actually planned to be there right now, so I could see it, and also Lauren Graham in Guys and Dolls.....but I barely have enough for the plane trip there at the moment.
It's been driving me crazy all week. I'm dying to see it with every fibre of my being.....I'll definately have to get the soundtrack either way. ....now if only I can come up with some way to get me (and Ness...cause she might kill me if I went without her :P ) there.
-anyone got a few free grand to send us over to New York for a couple of days to see 9 to 5, give me a yell!
oh and now I'm also really depressed that Wicked is ending its Melbourne run and moving to Sydney in August! WAHHHHHHHH

Welcome to 2009
So far so good I suppose.
Had a great time away in Anglesea for new years. Was totally exhausted when I got home though!
Been pretty busy the last few days. I saw Billy Elliot on Thursday night with mum and Nikki. It was really good!
Then I was out Friday night with the weekly tv/movie night of Ness and I.
Then came the big night saturday, we went to see Wicked again...3rd time. We had seats right in the middle, 3rd row from the front. It was amazing to be SO close, we could see all the details and colors of the costumes, and see their expressions and we picked up on so many things! -although we did lose a little of the magic perhaps by being so close...and it was a lot for the eyes to keep track of....but it was totally worth it!!!! We also missed Amanda Harrison as Elphaba, but her replacement for the night, Patrice was fantastic..so I didn't feel too bad about it. We'll catch her next time. -I also think I would have been so distracted keeping track of Lucy's craziness, that I probably wouldn't have been able to watch Amanda as much.
Then last night I went to see Yes Man with Jacinta. It was pretty good. Quite funny!
However with all this social activity, I have totally killed my diet this past week. I'm now back on track, and hopefully will be able to stay on it....the diet mostly consists of just keeping track of what I'm eating, and cutting down over eating or snacking, and also attempting to eat a little healthier, or lighter.
I have faith that it'll keep working.
