So I have become a terrible blogger...I keep forgetting about writing stuff.
So after Hawaii I was quite busy for a little while. Work started up a glee club, with a singing teacher, but it was more of a choir really I guess. I could only go 2 out of 4 weeks because of Hawaii and my annual doctors appointment.
-Speaking of, it went well...I didn't get another lecture like last year. He just said to keep exercsing and lose 5kg before next year...well AIM to.....
So back to glee club - After the last week, we were invited to sing 3 songs at The Greyhound Hotel across the road from work with our singing teacher who does a show on Friday Nights. So I invited Jacinta along, but had to kill time till 7pm which was when we were meeting. I fiugred it was too much effort to go home and back, so I drove around and got some dinner. Then met up with Jacinta and headed over. The place was tiny, and there were no free tables, because they were all reserved...so we had no where to put our stuff and it was kinda pointless. But our teacher had a table and said we could sit there till her friends arrived at 8pm. So we got up and sang...all 5 of us that turned up. It was good but kinda lame since we didn't have much atmosphere and the songs were over so quickly!
We are actually starting up Glee club again this week...hopefully will get a few more people this time around.
The weekend after we got back from Hawaii - was Idina Menzel's concert at Hamer Hall. We had great seats really close. She was great, and the show was different to what we saw in the US, so that was lucky. -I really wish she'd stop doing Poker Face though...
We also saw Legally Blonde again, which was great...and we hung out at the stage door to get our programs signed in Melbourne (finally) and chatted to everyone about the last show which was a few weeks later.
The last show was great fun. Ness had her friends and Mum and Sister with her so we had a big group which was good. It was so sad to see it come to an end, and the cast did really well not to lose it...till near the end. I'm still missing it months later!
But the good thing is Lucy is going to be in Wicked when it comes back next year...so yay!!!!
The Production Company started back up again in July with Gypsy. It was really good. I was prepared not to like Caroline O'Connor much, but she was great in Gypsy...just not other things I guess.
Last month they did Singing in The Rain...which while Christie Whelan-Browne and Matt Lee stole the show...was pretty lackluster.
But our seats were amazing for both. We got a subscription this year and that means we can keep the same seats every year!
Jacinta also joined a Rotary Club and they had a trivia night in July. I went along and met some of her friends. It was good fun. It was at the Richmond Town Hall. Afterwards we decided to head to the pancake parlour in Chadstone for some late night food!
Her friends also decided to do Trivia night at The Notting Hill Pub, and so now we do that every Wednesday night. We have managed to place 1st once, plus 2nd and 3rd. So we always have vouchers for the bar!
We have also had some changes happen at work. Susan has gone on Maternity leave, and Phillipa has moved to another department till April. So I went for Susan's level 5 job...but they didn't give it to me. -Which pissed me off...but I did get Phillipa's while she's away. We have Jodie with us now, who is lovely and has been working next to us with planning till now.
We are getting another new person this week. And then another at the end of October...so its all happening at work.

Musical March
So I'm a bit restless these days....
After C2B2, I saw Jersey Boys with Mum...it was soooo great to see it again, and even better than I remembered! Mum had a great time too.
It was weird having Anthony Harkin from Rock of Ages in it though...messed with my head a little. hah.
Last weekend Ness and I went to a benefit concert at Her Majesty's with the cast of C2B2, Jersey Boys and King Kong. It was cheap, but there was some good stuff. Francine Cain got to sing - which is more of her than you get to see in Chitty....but anyways.
We were front row...which was not the best for this show, but still good.
Ness and I have booked our flights to Hawaii. We are looking at hotels and activities, and will book more soon.
Work is okay. I take a different way to and from work now - which is working out well. Less traffic, and quicker. So that is one thing that makes my days better.
Last week I was crazy busy, and this week its a little quieter...which is good, but can be a bit boring sometimes.
Next week is Easter, so yay for a long weekend. Looking forward to my trip in June though.

Legally Blonde
OMG OMG you guys!
So last week I got to see 3 shows in 4 days and it was tons of fun. Wednesday I saw Promises Promises at the State Theatre at the Arts Centre....it was okay, but not much to write home about. Especially as Ness and I saw it 3 times on Broadway with Kristin Chenoweth, Sean Hayes, Katie Finneran and Tony Goldwyn. This one did not really compare. Marina Prior was okay, but it seemed weird. The guy that played Chuck was not great. He was doing okay, then forgot the words and messed up the last song a little bit....which I noticed, but perhaps people that hadn't seen the show didnt.
Then Friday it was off to Sydney for Legally Blonde weekend. After a little delay in actually getting to Sydney, Ness, Kay, Nick, Vicky and I headed off to the Lyric Theatre in Pyrmont to finally see Lucy Durack in Legally Blonde the musical. Our seats were fantastic, I think we were about 5th row, just off centre. The show started okay, then technical issues popped up and they even had to stop the show for about 10-15 minutes...it was hilarious...our very own disaster show! Then the show started up again with all the Delta Nu girls (skipping part of the song....) and to make things worse the poor little Chihuha dog played Bruiser wasn't cooperating and started running away, Renee Burleigh who plays Margot did a great job of catching him and improvising that part where she talks 'bruiser'.
Intermission they put down the fire curtain, again for technical dificulties....
Lucy was amazing as Elle...I knew she would be. But there were so many little things she did that I loved...but were very Glinda from Wicked...which I guess might have been more Lucy than Glinda in Wicked. Rob Mills (which did not help with the Wicked connection) was great as Warner. David Harris (who I only knew a little as playing Fiyero in Wicked post Rob Mills) was a great Emmett- adorable, funny and talented. Helen Dallimore who plays Paulette was fantastic...surprise surprise ANOTHER Wicked alumn, but she was Glinda in London. Also from Wicked...Zoe who played Elphaba when I saw Wicked in Sydney the first time.
After the show Ness, Vicky and I rushed to the stage door...and had it all to ourselves for a few minutes. We had prime positioning and got to meet everyone (I missed a few people but thats okay, I met the main ones, and there is always next time.). Everyone was really nice and happy to have a quick chat and sign our programs. Lucy came out almost last (which is why I missed Renee, she came out while I was talking to Lucy and zoomed past me. But still, I was talking to Lucy so I couldn't be happier. Lucy was very nice and happy to sign my program, and her CD for me. And then after signing a few other peoples programs took a photo with me.
Ness and I were pretty hyper after that...
Saturday Vicky and I had breakfast down at Harbourside, and then walked around a bit in the drizzle...before heading back to our hotel to change for another dose of Legally Blonde. Ness and I headed back over to the Lyric theatre at the Star Casino, and perused the merchandise stand - which in my opinion was lacking a little, I was disappointed in their selection...needed less kid stuff and better t-shirts!
After settling on a mug, magnet and dog bone tag/keyring, we bought OH MY Cosmopolitan cocktails...another plastic glass to add the collection.Then we headed in. We had seats on the end of the aisle further back and to the far right of where we were sitting the night before. So we had a different perspective which was good. -it included a view of David Harris in his underwear during Take It Like A Man.
Luckily this show went off without a hitch. No more technically difficulties. There were quite a few more kids in the audience of this show, but it was matinee. Overall a great show, a second viewing allowed us to take in more, and pick up on a few extra quirky bits.
After the show, we skipped the stage door - as we had pretty much conquered it the night before!
We headed back to the hotel for a debrief and a chance to change out of my dress.
For dinner all five of us headed to the Hard Rock Cafe, we got Long Island Ice teas while we waited for our table to be ready. -they pack a wallop I tell you!
We had a good table on the window, which had a great view of the harbour. The table was a bit squishy with all our drinks, meals and side dishes, but it was fine. I ordered a pomegranate martini with dinner - a classic fave of mine. We waited for the fireworks which were supposed to start at 8:30pm, but didn't end up starting till 9pm. -Ness and I shared a dessert to allow us to wait longer.
Sunday there was no time for sleeping in as we had to be up and out of the hotel by 10am. Vicky, Ness and I had breaky down at a cafe at harborside. Nick met up with us (he and Kay were staying till Monday) for a bit and then we had to head off to the airport. -for stupid international check in.
Once we checked in, we sat around a while in the food court....I was exhausted and not feeling great. After a bit of nibble on some food, we headed through customs and sat around in the shopping area, before finally boarding to go home. The plane was fine, and soon enough we were home again.
Melbourne was freezing, which was mean after a lovely morning in Sydney.
It was a great weekend, and I can't wait to see the show again...it better keep going and come to Melbourne so I can see it a million times more!

Twisted Broadway - Reupload

Monday night after work Ness and I went to see a charity concert at Fed Square in the city called Twisted Broadway. It was all stage people singing songs that were gender swapped, girls singing guys songs and vice versa. It was general admission, but we were 3rd row -most people sat at the back. It was a lot of fun, and there was talent galore! Some of my Rock of Ages peeps were there, Amy Lehpalmer, Samantha Hagen, Brent Hill, and Rachel durham as well. Amy sang AND played violin, that was fantastic!!! Boys in tutus, hairspray, and many other moments had me laughing my ass off. Well worth the $55!!!! I love being able to see my fave theatre people perform, and a chance to find some new ones! ----------- Carlie

The Producers
Saturday night I went to see the production company's production of The Producers with Kay, Nick, Ness and her friend Evie.
It was fan-freaking-tastic! While they don't do much by way of sets, the costumes were great...and the acting was awesome! Wayne Scott Kermond from singing in the rain and anything goes was a great Max! Christie Whelan was also great as Ulla! But Brent Hill of Rock of Ages blew me away in a performance as Leo - the total opposite of Lonny from RoA! He even sounded just like Matthew Broderick!!!
Our row X seats were great, almost any seat has a good view in that place!

Goodbye Rock of Ages!
Sunday was the last performance of Rock of Ages in Melbourne, and Ness and I went along, dressed in semi 80's attire. Some people were REALLY dressed up and looked awesome. Some people were not dressed up at all, and that was lame. The guy who won the dress up competition went as Waitress #1...but I thought there were much better costumes.
We had nobody sitting next to us in the first half, but then this old couple turned up at intermission, and I'm sure they were someone's grandparents/parents or something, cause they didn't seem to really belong.
The audience was crazy, with everyone singing, and sometimes speaking along (the latter did get annoying), but the bit where everyone went "B. O. O. H. O. (Audience: "O")....what they said." was classic!
It was so good to have Francine Cain back as Regina - we missed her not being in it last time. It was also great to have Justin back as Drew - having recovered from hurting his ankle. But I really missed Samantha Hagen as Waitress #1 -silly girl hurt her knee. I just love her belt during 'Heaven/More Than Words/Be With You'.
It was the best night. SOOO much fun, and the cast just brought it. Lincoln (Franz) was on fire!
I wished they had said a few words at the end, but its good they didn't, cause we rushed to the stage door, and managed to catch Lincoln making an early escape -and finally got him to sign our programs. We were right at the door, so we got the best spot to chat to people as they came out. Francine came out and we finally got her to sign our programs, and then she came back and took a pic with us. Samantha chatted to us about her knee, and we got a pic with her. Then Amy came out and took pics of everyone standing outside the stage door, before taking a pic with us. -That made the 3rd time we chatted to her and its nice to be able to have a few chances to chat, its less pressure. We hung around and got a pic with Justin too. Everyone was just lovely, and so friendly. I'm really gonna miss them now that show has gone to Brisbane.
We also felt much less pressure having already had pretty much everyone we wanted sign our programs at our last 2 stage door trips, with the exception of Francine and Lincoln who we got this time. We missed Rachel, but didn't care tooo much about that.
It made it much more relaxing. We were happy to chat with everyone and tell them we're gonna miss them, and we went for photos...even if I don't think I look the best in some of them, its still good to have.
I rocked out on the way home to the OBC cast recording, but I like our cast soooo much better.
The best part of the night might be the fact that I was able to record it on my iphone, so I have listened to that a few times since Sunday...and will be stealing the other show that Ness has when I see her.
I think overall 5 performances was a good number. They were semi spread out too, April, June, September, October, and finally November.
While I know there are people that saw it 30 times or more, but even with the cheap tickets, I don't have the money to go all the time....plus it loses something if you go TOO much.
We were also very lucky, we always had Amy as Sherrie...even though I would have LOVED to have seen Samantha play her. We had 1 performance without Francine (and we missed her greatly), and this one without Samantha. We had Jenson twice, and he rocks! But we had the mains for every other role, every single time...so can't complain.
So huge thanks to the cast and crew of ROA. I loved every single minute of my time with you.
I've adopted a whole new bunch of Aussie theatre people as my own...and I am very loyal! So I look forward to following them to new shows in the future hopefully. And hurry up Melbourne and bring me some theatre! Its a very cold harsh world with ROA gone, and nothing big coming for a while. I am gonna need my theatre fix.
.....oh and I'm STILL finding ROA glitter confetti around my house....I think it's multiplying!

From Worse, To Not So Bad
So last week was bad. I mean it started out so good with the Rob Guest concert, but Tuesday was a bad day, and then well, Wednesday got worse. I ended up not working. After my ordeal with the car, was shaky and had a lot of trouble driving again at all. It's like I'm starting out on my own for the first time again. Plus I'm learning to drive a new car in a way, having only ever driven that one on short trips.
Thursday night Ness came up after work and we went to dinner at one of the cafes in Glen Waverley, then went to see Crazy Stupid Love at Century City. It was SOOO good!!!
I drove to her place after work on Friday - the first time I'd driven that car down there...plus its really busy traffic...I was kinda terrified the whole way. By the time I got there I was shaking a little...but that soon went away, and by the time I took the trip home, I was okay. -I think I've almost got my sea legs back now.
So anyways, back to Friday night....
We had fun. Vicky, Kay and Nick came and we got yummy chicken for dinner, and Vicky made a super yummy chocolate pie thing. Then Kay, Nick, Ness and I watched Iron Man, which was actually pretty entertaining.
Saturday I had pretty quiet day. I watched TV, cleaned out the car, did 3 loads of laundry. Went and got a movie from the Oovie box at Safeway and got Fish and Chips. Then I watched all my Friday tv -which I hadn't had time to watch yet, and some new shows. I borrowed Country Strong. It was really good and had great songs in it. I had been planning to watch a bunch of new hour length shows, but I was so sleepy by midnight that I didn't have the energy for the last show. I was in bed and half asleep before Mum and Nikki got home a bit after 1am!
Woke up earlier than expected on Sunday, but it wasn't THAT early, and there were things to do. It was Grandma's birthday and Mum was bringing her over for lunch. Mum made me bake a cake, she was cooking a roast. She went over and got Grandma and brought her back to our place. Neil, Marg, and Tracey came by for a bit, with their adorable puppy Dino. We had cake and then they left and we had our lunch. I showed Grandma my photos from last years trip, since she hadn't seen them yet. Then Mum took her back and I got organised to go out....I was all ready to leave, then couldn't find my keys anywhere...looked under cushions, in bags - everything. Had to wait till Mum got back to get the spare off her, and then I was on my way to Rock!!!!
Our seats were awesome...but when Regina came out and it wasn't Francine, we were crushed! Not that I don't LOVE all the others, but she's kinda my fave...and one I really wanted to meet at the stage door. The replacement girl was okay, but just not Francine. I've become very attached to my people. I thought overall the show was lacking something...I think they were just all worn out. But it was still a blast!!! We went to the stage door afterwards and got chat to a lot more of them this time, and got almost all the mains to sign our programs. We were going to get a hot drink afterwards...but nothing was open, so we went home. I was glad my ipod was working and let me rock out to the soundtrack on my way home.
I can't wait till the last show on November 6th..it's gonna be crazy! And also sad, I don't want it to go...I love it, and the cast too much! Oh well....I'll live I suppose....and there's always Sydney I guess. hah!

Thursday night Ness came up after work and we went to dinner at one of the cafes in Glen Waverley, then went to see Crazy Stupid Love at Century City. It was SOOO good!!!
I drove to her place after work on Friday - the first time I'd driven that car down there...plus its really busy traffic...I was kinda terrified the whole way. By the time I got there I was shaking a little...but that soon went away, and by the time I took the trip home, I was okay. -I think I've almost got my sea legs back now.
So anyways, back to Friday night....
We had fun. Vicky, Kay and Nick came and we got yummy chicken for dinner, and Vicky made a super yummy chocolate pie thing. Then Kay, Nick, Ness and I watched Iron Man, which was actually pretty entertaining.
Saturday I had pretty quiet day. I watched TV, cleaned out the car, did 3 loads of laundry. Went and got a movie from the Oovie box at Safeway and got Fish and Chips. Then I watched all my Friday tv -which I hadn't had time to watch yet, and some new shows. I borrowed Country Strong. It was really good and had great songs in it. I had been planning to watch a bunch of new hour length shows, but I was so sleepy by midnight that I didn't have the energy for the last show. I was in bed and half asleep before Mum and Nikki got home a bit after 1am!
Woke up earlier than expected on Sunday, but it wasn't THAT early, and there were things to do. It was Grandma's birthday and Mum was bringing her over for lunch. Mum made me bake a cake, she was cooking a roast. She went over and got Grandma and brought her back to our place. Neil, Marg, and Tracey came by for a bit, with their adorable puppy Dino. We had cake and then they left and we had our lunch. I showed Grandma my photos from last years trip, since she hadn't seen them yet. Then Mum took her back and I got organised to go out....I was all ready to leave, then couldn't find my keys anywhere...looked under cushions, in bags - everything. Had to wait till Mum got back to get the spare off her, and then I was on my way to Rock!!!!
Our seats were awesome...but when Regina came out and it wasn't Francine, we were crushed! Not that I don't LOVE all the others, but she's kinda my fave...and one I really wanted to meet at the stage door. The replacement girl was okay, but just not Francine. I've become very attached to my people. I thought overall the show was lacking something...I think they were just all worn out. But it was still a blast!!! We went to the stage door afterwards and got chat to a lot more of them this time, and got almost all the mains to sign our programs. We were going to get a hot drink afterwards...but nothing was open, so we went home. I was glad my ipod was working and let me rock out to the soundtrack on my way home.

Rob Guest Endowment Concert 2011
Last night the newly returned Ness and I went to see this years Rob Guest Endowment concert at Her Majesty's Theatre in the city. I did a quick after work dinner/change/drive into the city and met Ness before the show.
Funnily enough since I was hanging out with her on Sunday, I spent more time with her, than I did at home in last 2 days.
The new kids were awesome and and some of our theatre faves were there to give AWESOME performances. I'd really missed Lucy Durack!!!!!
I had 3 faves to win, but then the other girl Ashlea Pyke knocked Don't Rain on My Parade out of the park! I really liked the guy who won - Blake Bowden. He did two great songs. Overall there were SO many good songs. Oh and we had the best seats! 3rd row on the aisle just to the right - right in front of the podium. So we got to be right in front of ALL the action! They gave us goodie bags with water and malteasers too!
The live action was a lot of fun. I would have LOVED to have Lucy's Glinda wand from Wicked....but unfortunately I didn't have a spare $3000. Everyone got so excited when it got over 2 grand.... and these 2 just kept pushing it higher! It was a long night - didn't get home till 11:30pm. But it was totally worth it. Got to see some great performances by my theatre faves - Lucy Durack, Francine Cain, Esther Hannaford, Rob Mills, and the cast of Rock of Ages...sans a few of the guys. But I was glad Samantha Hagen got to do some belting, as did Lincoln Hall!
Its totally a tradition, I'll keep going every year now!

Hairspray Weekend
So I’m a little behind on my blogging. I’ll do last weekend first, and try and get this weekend’s activities up soon.
Last weekend (May 1st) was the big final performance of Hairspray in Melbourne. Saturday arvo I went over to Vanessa’s and we did our thing. We watched Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, watched the 30Rock 100th episode, watched more Bones, and started our new dinner show Rizzoli and Isles. That was Saturday night. Sunday we got up, walked the pooches, dressed smartly and headed into the city. We popped into the Ian Potter Arts gallery to see the VCE arts exhibition in which Ness’ brother Nick was featured. There were lots of cool stuff – like creepy costume, destroyed wedding dress and pretty photos. There was also some weird stuff that I just didn’t get – but that’s art for you. Not everything is for everyone. Nick’s work was very original especially compared to some of the other stuff. Creepy/Weird but in a cool Tim Burton way! I liked all the detail, but my golly he must use a ton of ink!
After that we headed up to the theatre district. We got lunch in this little café next to The Comedy Theatre. It looked nice, but they took forever with some of our orders, and I had to go ask about my milkshake and I wasn’t the only one reminding them about stuff. –So I definitely wouldn’t recommend it if you were in a hurry! I mean they took the orders on Post-its!
After that we headed up to The Princess Theatre. I went to join the line for the toilets while Ness waited to meet her friend outside. My friend Laura from high school was working there again, and I chatted to her for a while, while I waited to move through the line. We had seats right near the end, at the first door, so we had a ton of people climbing over us cause they were not early getting into the theatre, but the seats were pretty good once things got started. Even though we were only 1 seat from the end, you can see just about everything from there.
Now I love Hairspray more than the next person probably…but its not MY show. This one belongs to Ness. It is her obsession, and I accept that. It’s hard to be obsessed when you only see things for the 2nd time at the final show. The last show was a blast. Everyone was extra excited and cheering which was fun! It didn’t have quite the same ‘rock star’ vibe that the final Wicked had, but Wicked is a very different show altogether vibe-wise. Hairspray had a lot more kids in the audience…some who were very annoying and had annoying parents!
At intermission I ran into Laura again, and chatted to her about the shows I saw in NY and about what I’d been up to. It was really good talking to her. I don’t really see anyone from school anymore and always end up running into Laura at the theatre, but we never really have a chance to talk.
After the show, and the tons of cheers and applause we gave the cast, Ness and I raced straight out the doors and to the front of the line for the stage door – we planned our seats especially for that!
It was my first Hairspray stage door experience and my first since New York. I brought along the program and decided on having the cast sign the front cover, because it would have taken too long to find the pages – cause it was crazy busy…but I probably would have had time, but I know who they all are! Oh well. Everyone was really lovely and that made it really fun!
After it was all over…Ness went looking for her missing cardigan, and ended up having to go through the stage door to get it…which I thought was really cool! – She crossed through to the other side! Nobody does that!
We headed home…well back to Ness’ place, after picking up the puppies from her parent’s house. We ate some toast – having not had any dinner, and watched some more Bones to cheer us up.
It was a very full on weekend, but it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately there are no good future musical prospects! I have no interest in ‘Dr Zhivago’ or the Phantom of the Opera sequel ‘Love Never Dies’. I don’t know what the next big show to come to Melbourne will be, but hopefully it will be something awesome! –Maybe I should start saving in advance, always keep a little musical savings fund going!
I’m surprised Hairspray didn’t stay very long…it seems like a short run in Melbourne to me, same for Mary Poppins. But maybe I’ve lost perspective after Wicked was going for over a year in Melbourne!

Mary Poppins
So there you have it, my first proper musical/theatre show of 2011 was Mary Poppins. I guess March isn't too bad. I've got Rock of Ages coming up soon, and the final show of Hairspray on May 1st. Not sure what else is coming to town this year, but I'm sure something good will pop up!
I really liked Mary Poppins, Verity Hunt-Ballad was really good, she's got a great voice and personality - which is always important. Marina Prior was very entertaining as Mrs Banks. She was really funny - which I didn't know she could be, having only ever seen her at Carols by Candlelight and the Rob Guest Endowment show. But the more she did the worse I felt for my mum cause she wasn't there the night they went. We didn't have the regular Mr Banks though, and they didn't either. I thought the kids were good. We had Kade and Scout. But the girl reminded us of Paige from Brothers & Sisters -which was weird. But they were good performers, not too over the top or annoying -except when they were meant to be.
I thought the guy that played Burt was really good. His singing wasn't fantastic, but he had acting chops, personality and was a great dancer.
The show was good, it was good that it was different from the movie, because that would be hard to do on stage. I had a few issues with things such as The Queen being there...when at the time its set -there was a king....but anyways. I thought it was really cool when they did Step in Time and Burt went over the top of the stage and up/down the sides. But the coolest thing was Mary flying out over the audience and up to the roof. that was SOOOO awesome! -She didn't fly over us, but I think that was better, cause we could see it better.
I ended up buying a mug with Supercalifragilistic written on it. It's HUGE! - it will have timeshare with the Friends coffee bowl. I didn't buy the program because Mum and Nikki had one and I don't see the need for multiples....I'll probably steal it for myself eventually anyways.
So our seats were pretty awesome. We were in row G, off to the left of the aisle, I've never sat that close at Her Majesty's Theatre before. The view was awesome, 'cept I had a really tall guy in front of me, so I had to keep moving my head. But 2 people next to us never turned up, so I moved over at intermission and then had a perfect view.
Our biggest complaint was that there was a family next to us, with 2 kids, including 1 very little girl who wouldn't SHUT UP. She talked through the whole thing, and the mother kept getting things out for her. It was ridiculous! I'm all for kids being able to go to the theatre - although I think there should be some kind of age requirement....someone brought a baby....who turned out to be quiet as a mouse! Go figure?! But people should know if their kids can handle being quiet. Its disrespectful to the actors, not the mention the high paying patrons around them. I mean it does cost over $100 bucks, so don't let your kids ruin it for people who pay good money to be there. Yes its a whole family sort of show, but its not a little kids show, its for bigger kids who can be quiet. Generally kids would act the same at the theatre as at movies, so if your kids talk or move around at the movies at lot - don't take them to live theatre!
Okay rant over....hopefully I will be able to train my kids to appreciate the theatre etiquette....or I'll leave them at home. -Haha!
Traffic was nuts getting in, and was nuts getting out too. Roads were blocked and so I had to go a different way to how I usually go, so that wasn't fun. I gave up on free parking after driving around for half an hour. I ended up going to the parking garage next to Her Majesty's Theatre. It cost 10bucks, but it was worth it in the end. Plus I did my first hook turn...I've never done one before - I don't like to drive in the city.
I got home just before Midnight, and talked to mum about it, I was way too awake so I turned on the computer, and somehow managed to end up watching half an ep of Private Practice....I only was looking up 1 scene...oh well. I got to bed at 2am...but am now totally exhausted!

Musicals
Been busy lately, especially last weekend. Friday after uni and after doing some work on a presentation I had this Monday, I headed down to Ness’. We did a night of drinking, with Brett. We played a drinking game to RV. It’s a fun movie drink to actually. Then we did the obligatory WW episodes. –We might need to start branching out soon in terms of the eps we watch. –Maybe we should retire season 1 for next time….or not. :p
Saturday night, after getting home from Ness’ and spending the afternoon working on my presentation more, it was off into the city to see Chicago (the musical, not the band – in case you were confused) We were split 3 and 3, Me, Nick and Kay, and Ness, Brett and Vicky in the cars, those from the east, and those from the south. We had dinner at The Spaghetti Tree before the show. It was good food and nice to eat out together as a group. Then we went over to Her Majesty’s Theatre where it was playing. We got our mandatory programs, and headed to our seats. I was on the aisle, and Ness was next to me, and then Nick and so on. I liked our seats, we had pretty good vision. The show was a lot of fun. There were some parts I simply loved and others that were a little disappointing. But I didn’t let them ruin the good parts.
We couldn’t help compare it to the movie. In the end some I liked better on stage, some better in the movie. I really liked Gina’s voice, but I felt her big number should have had more movement in it….they didn’t always use the stage as much as they could have.
I loved Roxie. I thought she was excellent, very funny…even if she is scary tiny. My favourite part might have been the part in ‘Roxie’ where she takes the conductor’s baton and starts playing around with it.
After the show Ness and I went over to the stage door and got Gina Riley (Mama) and Sharon Millerchip (Roxie) to sign our programs. Gina was lovely and went to the effort to sign to us by name. Sharon did too; she was very nice and friendly and drew little pictures. We also enquired about the commotion that stoped the show in the first act…someone up on the balcony had some sort of medical attack or something. But the show went on after a little while.
After the show we went and found the rest of the gang…who had gone missing when we dashed off to the stage door. –We turned around to tell them we’d meet them later, but they were gone. We got drinks and/or dessert back at the Spaghetti Tree afterwards. I had hot chocolate with yummy marshmallows!
Then it was home again.
I’m a little sad now cause that means I’m out of musicals in Melbourne. I’ve seen everything proper that has been out in the last year really – ‘cept for Rocky Horror which I don’t think was really my thing. It started with Wicked back in July 08. The first proper, and by proper, I mean big production with biggish stars and in the big theatres, show I’d seen in years. Before Wicked, I had seen Phantom of the Opera not long before that, and then before that was Oliver…sometime back when I was in High School I think.
In the last year I’ve been musical crazy. I saw Wicked…a few times…I saw Billy Elliot, Jersey Boys, Avenue Q, and now Chicago. As far was as I know there is nothing coming for a while. There is a short run of Cats, which if I have the money I wouldn’t mind seeing maybe. I’m not sure about Mamma Mia. I’m not too fussed about it. And then there’s Mary Poppins coming out sometime which I’ll have to see, as long as they cast good people. I think that was my problem with some of the shows between Oliver and Phantom…the stories were good, but casts were annoying. Now I’ve become pretty familiar with some good Aussie theatre talent. I’ve even got people to follow now. –Story of my life: another person to pay attention to. I value talent and am loyal to those who I think have it. –They’re MY people.
….I’m absolutely hopeless. But so what?! It’s really too late now to start worrying about it.

If I could fly I would!
So I have known that Allison Janney was doing the 9 to 5 musical for a while now. I knew it was coming to broadway this year, and yet didn't get myself organised enough to go over and see it. -Now if I had been earning enough I probably would have actually planned to be there right now, so I could see it, and also Lauren Graham in Guys and Dolls.....but I barely have enough for the plane trip there at the moment.
It's been driving me crazy all week. I'm dying to see it with every fibre of my being.....I'll definately have to get the soundtrack either way. ....now if only I can come up with some way to get me (and Ness...cause she might kill me if I went without her :P ) there.
-anyone got a few free grand to send us over to New York for a couple of days to see 9 to 5, give me a yell!
oh and now I'm also really depressed that Wicked is ending its Melbourne run and moving to Sydney in August! WAHHHHHHHH

Welcome to 2009
So far so good I suppose.
Had a great time away in Anglesea for new years. Was totally exhausted when I got home though!
Been pretty busy the last few days. I saw Billy Elliot on Thursday night with mum and Nikki. It was really good!
Then I was out Friday night with the weekly tv/movie night of Ness and I.
Then came the big night saturday, we went to see Wicked again...3rd time. We had seats right in the middle, 3rd row from the front. It was amazing to be SO close, we could see all the details and colors of the costumes, and see their expressions and we picked up on so many things! -although we did lose a little of the magic perhaps by being so close...and it was a lot for the eyes to keep track of....but it was totally worth it!!!! We also missed Amanda Harrison as Elphaba, but her replacement for the night, Patrice was fantastic..so I didn't feel too bad about it. We'll catch her next time. -I also think I would have been so distracted keeping track of Lucy's craziness, that I probably wouldn't have been able to watch Amanda as much.
Then last night I went to see Yes Man with Jacinta. It was pretty good. Quite funny!
However with all this social activity, I have totally killed my diet this past week. I'm now back on track, and hopefully will be able to stay on it....the diet mostly consists of just keeping track of what I'm eating, and cutting down over eating or snacking, and also attempting to eat a little healthier, or lighter.
I have faith that it'll keep working.

It was amazing to be SO close, we could see all the details and colors of the costumes, and see their expressions and we picked up on so many things! -although we did lose a little of the magic perhaps by being so close...and it was a lot for the eyes to keep track of....but it was totally worth it!!!! We also missed Amanda Harrison as Elphaba, but her replacement for the night, Patrice was fantastic..so I didn't feel too bad about it. We'll catch her next time. -I also think I would have been so distracted keeping track of Lucy's craziness, that I probably wouldn't have been able to watch Amanda as much.
Then last night I went to see Yes Man with Jacinta. It was pretty good. Quite funny!
However with all this social activity, I have totally killed my diet this past week. I'm now back on track, and hopefully will be able to stay on it....the diet mostly consists of just keeping track of what I'm eating, and cutting down over eating or snacking, and also attempting to eat a little healthier, or lighter.
I have faith that it'll keep working.
